Abigail Pope, LMFTA, MT-BC
LICENSED MARRIAGE & FAMILY THERAPY ASSOCIATE
BOARD CERTIFIED MUSIC THERAPIST
I am dedicated to helping you write your own stories. Sometimes we stick to writing the stories that have been told to us, and my role as your therapist will be to help you access the strengths you already have to make meaningful discoveries in your story that are authentic to you and your experiences.
After completing her undergraduate degree in music therapy from Appalachian State University, Abigail worked for a few years in a forensic behavioral health hospital near Richmond, VA. In that time, she became curious to learn more about therapy and the many systems that influence the lives of the clients she worked with. Abigail returned to her alma mater to pursue a dual-master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Music Therapy. Her varied educational and therapeutic experiences have prepared her to work with clients from many different backgrounds.
Abigail works with adult individuals and couples. She is particularly interested in working with clients navigating eating disorder recovery, body image and self-esteem concerns, neurodiversity, trauma, and relationship stress. Abigail’s therapeutic presence is warm and empathetic and her approach to therapy is infused with her music therapy background to create a dynamic, creative space of mutual exploration and discovery.
Outside of work, Abigail loves to create through baking and crafts. She also enjoys getting outdoors and engaging in various types of joyful movement, as well as resting and reading a book while snuggling with her cat.

I have limited in-person availability in Boone, NC. I also offer virtual appointments across North Carolina. I love having the option to offer both modalities because I believe that therapy should fit your needs and preferences, whether you want the designated atmosphere for in-person appointments, or the accessibility of joining the session from the comfort of your own space!

I want you to feel as plugged into the process as you like, whether it means discussing diagnoses, goals, or what we’ll be doing each session. I often like to share a bit of my thought process, so that you can decide which path we explore next and feel a sense of agency in your process, along with the support of a knowledgeable guide.

I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people and I especially loved times when a friend came to talk to me and left feeling a little bit lighter. Music was another passion area of mine, so when I found out about music therapy, it felt like a no brainer to study in my undergraduate career! In the time I spent working as a music therapist, I realized how much I loved hearing the stories of the people I worked with, as we explored their relationships, families, and experiences. I decided to return to school to deepen my knowledge of therapy through a Dual Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and Music Therapy. Being a therapist is a reminder that humans are so resilient and it is such a privilege to experience that hope and joy first-hand with each of my clients!

Coffee order: Dark roast with cream, or a lavender-vanilla latte
Book: This answer tends to be a “flavor of the month” for me! I’m on a big fantasy kick right now, so I’m working through all the books in Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere. I LOVED the Stormlight Archives Series (especially all the references to mental health).
Way to Unwind: I love to get outside, ride my bike, swim, do some crafts, snuggle my cat, read, or watch tv with my partner.
Season: Fall
Dream Vacation: Anywhere I can explore the local nature. I love going to the US National Parks, and I would love to explore the National Parks in other countries!! My absolute dreams would be to see real lava coming out of a volcano (from a safe distance, of course) and to ice skate on a huge, frozen lake.
TV Show: Avatar The Last Airbender (the animated version) – it was a childhood favorite of my whole family and is now my go-to comfort show.
Podcast: I’m in more of an audiobook era, but my top 3 podcasts are probably Armchair Anonymous, Ologies with Alie Ward, and Maintenance Phase.g
